A professional assignment photographer and photojournalist for more than two decades. Always an adventurer, John got his start in the industry by photographing a ninety-day traverse of the Alaska Range. Now based in Flagstaff, Arizona, John has been capturing the expansive beauty of the American Southwest, photographing assignments for National Geographic, The New York Times, Arizona Highways, and more. His commercial clients include Microsoft, History Channel, Patagonia, The North Face, and many others.
John enjoys teaching as much as shooting assignments. His experience includes extensive instruction for Road Scholar, as well as leading a guest workshop for the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Also, John carries several safety and ethics certifications, including Wilderness First Aid (WFA), Basic Life Saving (BLS), Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and Leave No Trace.
Redrock Workshops is John’s newest initiative, where his specially designed photography workshops and tours bring both beginners and experienced photographers alike out into the wild to hone their craft.
John has made Flagstaff, Arizona his permanent base camp which provides easy access to the Southwest's iconic landscapes.
